About the department

Background of the Department

Department of lifelong learning and community development is one among the five departments under the college of education and community development. Its commencement is dates back to 2016 with 50 students and 3 academic staffs with the nomenclature of “Adult Education and Community development”. Before getting its current name, there is one batch graduated with the program of “Community Development and Adult Education”. Since its establishment, our department has successfully graduated four batches. Consisting of Nine Lecturers and one Assistant Professor, the department is excelling in the areas of teaching-learning, community service and research. As it can be testified in the recent exit exam, these young and energetic staffs are doing their best in assisting and enriching students with knowledge, skill and attitude. During their stay, our students got the diversified and multidisciplinary courses that can prepare them for the global market.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of the Department

  • Ensure high-quality teaching by supporting faculty development and promoting effective teaching methods
  • Manage the accreditation process for academic programs and ensure compliance with academic standards.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of faculty performance, providing feedback and supporting professional development.
  • Oversee the development, review, and improvement of the department’s academic programs and curricula.
  • Lead efforts in recruiting, hiring, and retaining qualified faculty and staff.
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
  • Work with staffs and university administration in setting strategic goals for the department.
  • Ensure that the department adheres to university policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports to the university administration
  • Oversee course scheduling and workload management for faculty.
  • Ensure academic advising and support services are available for students in the department.
  • Serving as a point of contact for students’ academic concerns and career guidance.
  • Promote the department and its programs to prospective students and help retain current students through academic support initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other departments, colleges, and university administration
  • Build relationships with stakeholders, industry partners, and professional organizations.

Vision

By 2030, the department will be at the forefront of teaching, research, and community service in Ethiopian universities of same department.
