The Department of Pedagogical Science was established in 2012, coinciding with the launch of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Woldia University. The department focuses on teaching and learning, research, and community engagement, while delivering on-the-job capacity-building training. Its primary mission is to produce qualified teachers and leaders for educational organizations. The department is committed to equipping educators, professionals, and stakeholders with the knowledge, attitudes, and necessary technological skills to implement innovative teaching strategies and effectively lead educational organizations in alignment with the 21st-century needs of learners.
The department offers a Bachelor of Education degree in Pedagogical Science and Geography and Environmental Studies composite. Additionally, it has introduced postgraduate programs in Educational Planning and Management, as well as Curriculum and Instruction. The exit exam passing rate and the employment rate of graduates have both been high, as confirmed by the university’s deliver ology program and the department’s efforts
The department is responsible for designing inclusive curricula, providing quality teacher education and professional development, enhancing research and innovation, promoting community engagement and educational technology transfer, conducting capacity building and short-term training, influencing policy, offering student support, and ensuring continuous improvement and academic excellence. This is achieved through support, monitoring, community engagement, and fostering social equity in education.

The mission of department of pedagogical science is to produce competent graduates that can solve notional and regional quality education problems via designing curriculum, policy and other important educational interventions. It places a strong emphasis on producing qualified and technologically skilled professionals and promoting effective on-the-job training for educators and educational leaders. Similarly, the department is responsible to provide quality education, conduct problem-solving researches, and establish connections with the community and educational organizations through effective community service. Moreover; the department is expected to conduct evaluations of educational policies in our country and propose improved policy suggestions.
