About the Department

Background of the Department

The Department of Special Needs and Inclusive Education is one of the leading departments at Woldia University, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. It was founded in 2009 E.C/2016G.C.The department was making good progress by conducting teaching-learning, research, and community service in north wollo and Waghimra zones. Special needs and inclusive education has gone through different phases of transformation. Now, the department has BA in summer and regular programs. Now the department consists of 10 staff members with different academic levels. The department is proud of having several types of students with special needs, including students with visual impairment, as well as other categories of students with special needs, in its undergraduate program.

By 2030, becoming a center of excellence in teaching, research, and community service in the field of Special Needs and Inclusive Education in East Africa.

Mission

The department aims to prepare professionals with essential knowledge, pedagogical skills, and work ethics to enhance the capacity and well-being of individuals with special needs, offering quality programs that equip them to sensitively address diverse learner needs, work effectively in inclusive environments, foster innovative research on inclusivity in education, engage in responsive community projects, and strengthen partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
